Shirley man steals police license plate readers, cops say

A Shirley man stole two license plate reader cameras from a Moriches intersection, police said.

Miguel Perez, 68, swiped two Axon automated license plate readers from Moriches-Middle Island Road near Glen Drive on Sunday about 6:40 p.m., cops said.

Detectives nabbed Perez the following day, Monday, Augus 3, at approximately 5 p.m. on Carnation Drive in Shirley — just a short distance from where the cameras had been mounted.

Perez was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny. He was issued a desk appearance ticket and will be arraigned at a later date.
