Bellport area parents offered free at-home educational services

|

The Long Island-based nonprofit Family Service League is now offering free, at-home educational services to better help parents in the Bellport area ready their children for school.

Through the program, parents receive two years of twice-weekly home visits, if they have children between the ages of 2 and 4. This is the first time ever it’s been offered in Bellport.

“Through these home visits, PCHP early literacy specialists educate parents on the importance of parent-child interaction and give them the tools (books and educational toys), skills, and encouragement to engage their children, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to enter school ready to succeed,” reads a press release announcing the program.

“These families are often challenged by poverty, isolation, limited educational opportunities, language and literacy barriers, as well as other obstacles to healthy development and educational success.”

There are no income requirements. The only requirement is that a child be 2 or 3 years old to get started and that the family commits to two years of the twice-a-week visits, which last 30 minutes per visit.

The program targets South Country, but neighboring families will be considered.
