South Shore Vintage in Patchogue opens ‘The Closet’ for vintage clothing

|

South Shore Vintage in Patchogue has just added a clothing department to its North Ocean Avenue location.

To stock it, owner Elizabeth Plotz spent the winter scouring estate sales across the island, especially on the Gold Coast, to find gems like a Valentino dress from Saks Fifth Avenue.

“It was $610 in the early 1980s so you could imagine what it would cost in today’s dollars,” Plotz said. “And it still has the tags on!”

She’s calling the new vintage clothing section The Closet, which she started building up in April. But the clothes have since spilled out of the walk-in closet and onto the main floor as well.

Most of the clothes, hundreds in all, date from the 1960s to the 1980s. Plotz even has dresses that were likely used for proms or weddings.

“Some of the formal stuff will go for a little bit more, but all the blouses and everyday wear will be much more affordable, like you can buy a top for $18,” she said.

There’s also some disco jumpsuits. “Those are fun,” she said.

Plotz will also be offering men’s clothing and accessories in The Closet.

“When I started on eBay way back in 2000 I was doing clothes; and that actually got me through college,” Plotz told GreaterPatchogue this week. “This is going back to my roots and it’s been a lot of fun.”

South Shore Vintage opened in 2016 at 76 North Ocean, just north of Reese’s 1900 Pub.
