Southampton mourns sudden passing of beloved bus driver, father of four

|

The Southampton community is mourning the loss of a cherished school bus driver who leaves behind his wife and their four children.

Lamont “Burger” Miller, 48, died of a massive heart attack on Sunday in front of his children, according to a GoFundMe page that the community has flooded with donations.

“His children witnessed his death and will require mental health support to cope with the scope of this tragedy,” reads the GoFundMe page established by family friend Adrina Smith. “They are at varying stages of emotional development and his death will affect them each differently in their phases of life.”

Miller, a school bus driver in Sag Harbor and a driver of WLNG 92.1’s Rolling Roadcaster, is survived by his wife Lisa and their children, Gianna 16; Madison 14; Samatha, 8; and 5-year-old Dominick.

“Financial support is a way to offer them stability as they find new meaning in a life that’s been turned upside down,” Adrina wrote. “Lamont and Lisa made a beautiful family and the life they etched out for themselves was one that was filled with joy, laughter, and a lot of love. It will take a village to help them once more find their footing.”

Moved over Miller’s sudden death, the community has contributed more than $43,000 in over 300 donations to the GoFundMe effort for his family.

In an update on the GoFundMe page, Adrina said the family is extremely”the outpouring of love” it has received from the community. Additionally, Adrina noted that Miller’s youngest child Dominick has special needs and had relied on the comfort of his dad’s presence.

“He would fall asleep each night under his father’s arms. Routine is of the upmost importance for him, and his has been extremely disrupted,” Adrina wrote. “While all of the children are devastated, Dom is nonverbal and will require the most help in finding a new normal in this uncharted territory.”

In accordance with Miller’s children’s wishes, a viewing will be held this Saturday, Nov. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brockett Funeral Home, 203 Hampton Road in Southampton.
