Special vigil Saturday at SCPD’s Fifth Precinct in support of police

|

It’s National Police Week and locals will have the opportunity to show their appreciation for police officers Saturday evening in Patchogue.

A special vigil is planned for outside the Fifth Precinct from 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., which will commemorate those who have lost their lives during service. The vigil is also a way for people to show their support for the sacrifices law enforcement officers make on a daily basis.

“National Police Week is a week-long reflection on those police officers who have fallen in the line of duty,” says Judy Pepenella of the Conservative Society for Action, which helped organize the vigil.

Pepenella stressed the event is apolitical.

Attendees are encouraged to arrived at the precinct 15 minutes beforehand. According Pepenella, everyone should wear blue clothes or a ribbon and bring along a flashlight or LED light.

The event begins with a prayer, and after 30 minutes of remembrance, all lights will be turned off  to represent a solidarity with law enforcement, she said.

Suffolk County’s Fifth Precinct is located at 125 Waverly Avenue in Patchogue.
