St. Baldrick’s at MoMo’s Too raises $19,153 for childhood cancer research

|

In just its second year, the St. Baldrick’s Day bash at MoMo’s Too in Bayport has already proven to be among the biggest fundraiser events anywhere around Greater Patchogue.

Last year, the MoMo’s bartenders, along with co-owner Tracey Comunale, raised nearly $13,000.

This year they eclipsed that number by raising $19,153.

Over 30 people had their heads shaved to cheering crowds at MoMo’s Too on Saturday, March 24. And over 300 people attended. (More photos below.)

So what’s the secret to raising so much money? MoMo’s co-owner Richard Comunale tells us there’s strength in numbers; all 15 bartenders, as well as his wife, work hard to each raise money.

“I have all 15 of my bartenders be a sponsor; they create there own fundraiser and most bartenders had someone have his head shaved — and each one collected money,” he said.

Money is also raised through a 50/50, Chinese auctions and St. Baldrick’s Foundation T-shirt sales.

MoMo’s Too has taken up the cause for childcare cancer research ever since the couple from Patchogue-Medford High School opened in Bayport in March of 2016.

“Every year we do a golf outing for a local child with cancer; we raise over $8,000 every year,” Richard said. “We also do a toy drive for Stony Brook cancer children and a Christmas bike run that same day.”

There’s nothing personal about the cause to help fight childhood cancer for he and his wife or the staff at MoMo’s Too — their lives haven’t been touched by such afflictions.

Still, these kids need help — and they’re doing their part each year in Bayport.
