East Islip contractor nabbed for bailing on renovation job, cops seek other potential victims

He took the money, gutted the trust, and only finished half the job.

An unlicensed East Islip contractor was nabbed Monday by police for allegedly accepting a homeowner’s money and walking away from an unfinished renovation.

Suffolk Police said a woman hired Michael Specchio’s company, M3 Development Group Inc., in January to handle home improvements at her Stony Brook house.

But Specchio, 48, completed only part of the work before pulling out altogether, police said.

Detectives with Suffolk Police’s Sixth Squad arrested Specchio at 3 p.m. at the Sixth Precinct. The investigation also revealed that his Suffolk County contractor’s license had expired, police said.

Specchio is charged with third-degree grand larceny and operating as an unlicensed contractor. He was held in jail overnight and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at Suffolk First District Court in Central Islip.

Police are asking anyone who believes they were also victimized by Specchio to call 631.852.COPS (2677).
