Snow was falling and waves were crashing on the North Shore during Thursday’s snowstorm, with whirling winds causing flooding at Port Jeff’s Harbor Front Park.

And Terryville saw the most snow of anywhere on Long Island at 16.4 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
Since the start, plows have been hard at work trying to clear the roads across the county.
And the NWS is reporting that temperatures will fall into the single digits Friday (6 degrees) and Saturday (3 degrees), causing officials to be concerned about the roads.
“The worse thing you can have following a storm like this is extremely cold temperatures,” Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said at a press conference Friday morning. “Major roads look good … but it is still imperative that residents remain cautious due to the icy conditions and that they avoid unnecessary travel.”
When temperatures drop, Bellone explained, salt and sand become less effective in clearing off the snow, leading to icy roads.
“We remind everyone to check on their neighbors, fill their oil tanks, fill their gas tanks because thats the type of 72-hour period that can lead us into a lot of emergency situations,” Port Jeff Mayor Margot Garant said prior to the storm.
County executive Bellone also warned people of the dangers of the weather.
“The reality is temperatures like this are extremely dangerous and life threatening,” he said.
