Opa!

It’s that time of year again.

The Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption is hosting its 57th annual Port Jefferson Greek Festival from Thursday, Aug. 23 to Sunday, Aug. 26 (dates and times below).

The event, held each year at 430 Sheep Pasture Road, is a great, family-fun festival, the organizers tell GreaterPortJeff.

“It is fun and a great experience,” said the church’s secretary, Maria Botonakis  “You get to eat Greek food, listen to Greek music, and enjoy rides.”

Some of that authentic Greek food includes traditional dishes like souvlaki, gyros, and baklava.

In addition to regular food stands, the festival will also have tavernas, which are Greek-styled eating grounds where food is brought out on platters.

“They bring out food so you don’t have to wait on lines,” said Botonakis.

There are carnival rides and game stands throughout each day with opportunities to win over 300 prizes.

The rain-or-shine Greek Festival will also be having a firework show on Friday and Saturday.

The cost of admission is $2 per person, anyone aged 12-and-under is free.
