The Assistants author Camille Perri visits Patchogue Village May 10

|

Before it becomes a movie, now’s your chance to get to know Camille Perri, author of The Assistants, right here in Patchogue.

Perri is visiting for an author talk and book signing that starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts at 71 East Main Street.

This is part of the free Library in the Lobby series that’s organized by Patchogue-Medford Library and the Patchogue Theatre for the Performing Arts.

About the book:

Perri’s debut novel follows the story of 30 year old Tina Fontana, an assistant who always plays by the rules but feels that her life is going nowhere fast.

When a technical error presents the opportunity to pay off her student-loan using billionaire media mogul Robert’s expense account, she falls down a morally questionable rabbit hole.

Soon other assistants want in and before she knows it, Tina is at the forefront of a Robin Hood-esque movement that becomes a rallying cry for over-educated, underpaid women who are asking themselves, ‘how is it that after all these years, we are still assistants?’

Cold Iron Pictures has acquired the film rights to the novel.

“This is an amazing opportunity to partner with an up-and-coming author and bring her story and energy to the community,” said the library’s Jessica Oelcher. “Ms. Perri is a Long Island native and prior to her debut novel worked early on as a reference librarian then as books editor for Cosmopolitan and Esquire.”

“Her novel resonates with so many of our young people struggling to make a living in the city and here on Long Island,” Oelcher added. “And we’re happy to help provide a venue for events like this that are open to the community.”
