It was time to celebrate at the new Argyle Theatre at Babylon Village.
After years of planning and construction, the Argyle Theatre, which is run by a father-and-son team, Mark and Dylan Perlman, held a grand opening ceremony on Tuesday, June 19.
The festivities followed the Argyle’s first full production in “Guys and Dolls” on Main Street.
“Having been in construction so long, and now, just walking in every day is surreal,” said Dylan. “Having opened and closed our first production is amazing.”
At the ribbon-cutting, the Argyle Theatre team was joined by residents, representatives from the village and members of the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce.
“I want to thank Mark and Dylan for going through this … it couldn’t be better,” said Babylon Mayor Ralph Scordino.
The mayor’s compliments were quickly followed with more praise.
“We would like to welcome you the community; you have quickly become an important part of it,” said the Chamber of Commerce president, Jacqueline DiDonato.
“We thank you for taking the leap of faith in our village.”
The old Bow Tie Cinema in Babylon first opened as a theater in 1922, showing silent movies. Prior to being owned by Bow Tie, it had operated as a tri-screen Clearview theater.
The Perlmans said it was divided up into three screens sometime in the 1980s.
