All Port Jefferson Village parking meters are offline until springtime.
From Dec. 4 until March 15, visitors and residents of the village will be able to park freely, according to the Village’s Transportation Department.
“We do this to encourage people to come to Port during the holidays and winter months when we are not as busy with the summer tourist and boaters,” said Port Jeff mayor Margot Garant.
Business owners like Sue Hoeffner from Sea Creations on Main Street fully support the idea of free parking to stimulate business.
“I got positive feedback from the customers the very first day,” she said. “It is just another reason to come downtown.”
