It’s like a food court but instead of fast-food chains, it’s a dining area for the local restaurants at the Stony Brook Village Center.
That’s how you can describe the Take Out Inn, a new facility that recently opened in an empty space last occupied by a Jos. A. Bank store at 97 Main Street Suite K.
The Ward Melville Heritage Organization, which runs the village, launched the Take Out Inn through a new initiative by Brookhaven Town to expand indoor seating.
Under the program, businesses can apply for permits to take over vacant storefronts for dining purposes.
The approval of the application is subject to approval by the Suffolk County Health Department.
The Take Out Inn, which launched this month, has seating and access to touchless menus for Crazy Beans, Robinson’s Tea Room and Pentimento Restaurant.
“This is a great idea that other communities should embrace to keep restaurants open and profitable throughout the pandemic,” said Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine. “These are difficult times and government must be proactive so we can help businesses survive and keep their customers safe.”
Businesses and landlords interested in this program should contact the Brookhaven Town Planning Division at 631-451-6400.
