The Village Lanterne to expand into Black Forest Bakery in Lindenhurst

|

After 51 years of serving sweet treats to the Lindenhurst community, Black Forest Bakery will be closing its doors on Nov. 1.

Owner Thomas Lorch announced on Facebook the retail bakery will shut down and merge into the family’s other establishment, The Village Lanterne, to create more seating and kitchen space.

Lorch says they can now move forward with their plan to shift more towards the restaurant and catering business, which halted these last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It is with a heavy heart, but with great excitement that we take this next step,” Lorch said in his statement. “We hope to see you at The Village Lanterne so that we can continue to make more memories and friendships.”

Last year, the store next to the bakery became a new pub room for the restaurant, and Lorch says it has proven to be successful.

The Village Lanterne will continue to serve breakfast and the Lorch family intends to keep making occasion cakes and other baked goods through the German eatery’s catering department.
