It’s no secret that being in a hospital all day can be particularly boring, especially if you’re a child.
So to liven their pediatric patients’ spirits, Stony Brook Children’s Hospital hosted an “Everything Green” event Thursday. Throughout the day, kids partook in creative projects to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
“It is really important to normalize an experience for children in the hospital,” said Joan Alpers, Stony Brook’s director of Child Life Services. “Everything Green is just an opportunity for kids to have fun with leprechauns in preparation for St. Patty’s Day.”
In the hospital’s playroom, children were able to draw and decorate St. Patrick’s Day-themed hats.
And if a child couldn’t make it out of his or her bed, the arts and crafts went to the bedside.
The day really brought smiles to the children’s faces, said one patient’s mom, Kim Rengifo.
“We really enjoy it,” she said. “It brightens [the kids’] day.”
