While most kids are splashing in a pool or kicking a soccer ball on the lawn, these two brothers were out raising money for a great cause this summer.
Last week, Jeffery,6, and Hunter Paglino, 3, set up a lemonade stand and raised over $100 for Good Samaritan Hospital’s Child Life Program in its department of pediatrics.
The two Sayville brothers conceived of the fundraiser as a way to give back to the hospital, where both brothers spent time after suffering from Salmonella poisoning last month.
“It was amazing what was done for them while they were here,” said the boys’ father, Michael. “Every day there was something new, whether it was a toy or a couple of characters who came.”
After their hospital visit, older brother Jeffery immediately wanted to help other ailing children.
“He told me he didn’t want the other kids to be afraid while they were [at the hospital],” said their mom, Heather.
In addition to selling lemonade, the two also sold cookies.
“We did it to help other kids feel better,” said Jeffrey, with a smile.
According to Good Sam, the money raised will go toward purchasing new toys for the hospital’s play area.
