Three local companies have teamed up and spent much of the last month gathering donations for frontline workers at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.
“We have an entire storage unit full of donations and we will be making up individual care packages for the staff,” Michael Pitera of Partners in Sound, an entertainment company involved, told GreaterBayShore earlier this week.
“We are estimating about 500-plus bags,” Pitera said.
The volunteers will set up in the hospital’s back parking lot with tents and trucks at 6 a.m. Sunday during a shift change. The other companies that are spearheading the effort are Moms Who Maid It, owned by Michelle Lagudi and JunkBGone, owned by Nick Magalios. (The event was previously scheduled for Saturday.)
Donations were received from several community members and restaurants in the area, as well as Stop and Shop, which contributed 650 reusable bags.
Applebee’s of East islip, Bagel Boss of Bay Shore, Bj’s of Islandia, Final Phase Auto Collision, Maxwells in Islip, Bubba’s Burrito Bar in Islip, Bayside Clam Bar in East islip, Oconee Diner in Islip, Peter Pan Diner in Bay Shore, Mary’s Pizza and Pasta in Islip Terrace, all contributed.
“As well as many other volunteers who have hand sewn masks and ear savers for the staff,” said Pitera.
