East Patchogue’s historic Robinson’s Market is officially back open, and by its third-ever tenant.
And these well-known guys are serving up some hefty sandwiches.
On Tuesday, TJ’s Hero Shop opened up in the 80-plus-year-old building after operating for almost 25 years at 508 East Main Street in East Patchogue.
“It is so nice to be open; we finally made it,” said TJ’s owner Tim Moore, who took over the property earlier this year.
Robinson’s Market was founded in 1935 by a local farmer named Phil Robinson, who later sold the property to husband and wife Peter and Joan Valenti.
As previously reported, TJ’s Hero Shop at Robinson Market will continue the tradition of offering a neighborhood-feel by selling convenience items, as well as fresh dairy and produce.
“Their customers [at Robinson’s] are excited because we’re not stopping from doing what they were doing,” Moore told GreaterPatchogue. “His clientele is a little older, they play daily Lotto, buy half gallons of milk. Our place is fast paced.”
One longtime TJ’s Hero costumer shot over to the new TJ’s Tuesday just minutes after the new location’s opening was announced on Facebook.
“It is all about the bread; it is just something about their bread,” said Joe Sanfilippo, a Bellport resident, before sinking his teeth into a New Yorker pastrami sandwich on opening day.
TJ’s Hero Shop at Robinson’s Market will be open six days a week, Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and closed on Sundays.
