Note: The story below indicates that Brookhaven Town has already agreed to provide lifeguards to the village. However, according to Newsday the agreement still needs Town Board approval.
Bellport Village Mayor Ray Fell said things worked out well by having Brookhaven Town lifeguards patrol Ho-Hum Beach this past summer after a dispute erupted between the village and its longtime lifeguards.

The transition went so smoothly, he said, that the village has requested to use the town’s lifeguards again next year.
And the town has agreed, Fell said announced Monday night in Village Hall.
“The community was very attached to the lifeguards that were there, but over the course of time they began to appreciate the job that the new lifeguards were doing,” Fell later said in an interview. “There was no attitude toward them by our residents, and everything worked out well.”
Fell said the town’s lifeguards will cost the village about the same as hiring their own, or about $27,000.
Town officials have also assured that former village lifeguards would be considered for positions, Fell added.
