Training class for life-saving Narcan Nov. 17 in Brightwaters

|

narcan_training_2The Suffolk County health department has announced a series of training classes for life-saving Narcan — an opiate overdose prevention drug.

Locally, there will be a class Nov. 14 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library, located at 1 South Country Road in Brightwaters.

The training, which meets New York State Department of Health requirements, will enable participants to recognize an opioid overdose, administer intranasal Narcan and take additional steps until EMS arrives,” an announcement reads.

Narcan blocks the effects of opioids and reverses an overdose.

Participants will also receive a certificate of completion and an emergency resuscitation kit that includes nasal Narcan.

This event is supported by the Kiwanis Club of The Islips-Bay Shore.
