It’s not quite Alive on the River, which is kicking off this summer, but Saturday’s Cinco de Mayo celebration will be serving as a sort of dress rehearsal in Patchogue.
And everything appears to be in order for the river-crawling concept inspired by Alive After Five. Below are three things to know before heading to the river for May 5, the most blessed of holidays in the U.S.
• The 30-passenger water taxi being operated by Fire Island Ferries out of Bay Shore is fueled up and hits the river at 4 p.m. and runs to midnight. It’s $5 per ride or $10 for a bracelet to get unlimited rides that day.
The taxi will be arriving at each of the river’s five restaurants every 45 to 60 minutes and will also be operating during the Alive by the River dates: July 5, July 26, Aug. 9, and Aug. 23.
“Now you can go restaurant hopping,” says Drift 82 co-owner John Sarno.
• The first-ever Patchogue Riverfront souvenir mug is ready for the Summer of 2018. And it’s not just a keepsake.
The 22-ouncer is $10 to purchase and will score you $7 refills of Blue Point at all five restaurants: Drift 82, Oar Steak & Seafood Grill, Harbor Crab Co., Dublin Deck and Off Key Tikki, all season long
It doesn’t matter where you buy your mug; they’re available at the five locations.
• Looking for a ride to the river? The two men behind the popular designated driving service Late Night Chauffeurs have just launched a free transportation company for Patchogue Village revelers.
They’ll be driving people around Patchogue in what can best be described as suped-up golf carts, starting May 5. Qwik Ride works similarly to ride sharing services like Uber and Lyft, in the sense you can download the app and order and track your ride.
The carts will be operating from noon to 3 a.m., seven days a week, but only within the village.
