Port Jefferson takes Christmastime seriously, from the Santa’s Workshop near the harbor to the regionally renowned Dicken’s Festival.
There is a lot happening, so here’s a guide to the holidays in Port Jeff.
• Performances of A Christmas Carol at Theatre Three run from Nov. 18 to Dec. 30, with a New Year’s Laughin’ Eve show set for Dec. 31.

• The Santa Parade is Saturday, Nov. 25. The parade starts at the Long Island Rail Road station at 11:30 a.m. and heads north into the village. The route turns left from Main Street onto West Broadway and stops at the Drown Meadow Cottage at Barnum Avenue.
• Santa’s Workshop gets going right after the parade, at the cottage from noon to 4 p.m. The workshop then opens again at those same times on Nov. 26, Dec. 2, Dec. 3, and Dec. 9. • There’s a Holiday Shopping Crawl on Small Business Saturday, which is also Nov. 25. You can kick off your crawl with a free cup of coffee at Starbucks, located at 201 Main Street. From there you could get a Shopping Crawl Card from any participating business to receive the day’s discounts. There are over two dozens local businesses involved. Shop anytime.
• If you miss the crawl, you can still enjoy some Late Night Out shopping Wednesdays after work. On those nights in December, the businesses involved in the Shopping Crawl will be offering free gift wrapping. (Dec. 6, 13, 20.)
• The 22nd Annual Charles Dicken’s Festival is all set for Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3 and takes place throughout the village.
“The Village of Port Jefferson will magically transform into the Dickensian era with streets filled with roaming characters such as Father Christmas, Dickens Mayor, Scrooge, the Town Crier and the beloved chimney sweeps,” reads the Dicken’s Festival page on portjeff.com.
Most of the events are free and fun for all ages.

• You might also notice lots of Christmas trees glistening from the second and third stories in the village throughout the holidays. It’s not by accident.
The Festival of Trees runs from Nov. 27 until shortly after New Year’s Eve.
