Update: Prosecutors say man admitted to dismembering woman whose remains were found in E. Patchogue

Suffolk Police homicide detectives are investigating human remains discovered along Montauk Highway in East Patchogue on Thursday.

The remains have not been identified, and it’s unclear if the investigation is related at all to the two-week disappearance of 56-year-old Patchogue resident Yvette Leonard.

Leonard’s son Malyk, who has been publicly using social media and boots on the ground to conduct a search for his mother, last spoke out on Facebook about the case shortly before noon on Thursday.

“Hey everyone. I was informed that the police are out searching right now,” he wrote. “I’m glad that they are starting to ramp up the search, even though it’s been 2 weeks since my mom has been missing and I have not been notified of any major leads.

“Please keep my mom in your thoughts and prayers. I plan on coming out tomorrow or Saturday to continue searching,” he added.

In the comments sections of that post last night, Facebook users posted photos of what appeared to be police activity in East Patchogue.

‘Please help me find my mother,’ son of missing Patchogue woman begs cops, media and community

Yvette Leonard went missing about 8 p.m. on June 13. She was last walking along Terry and Edwards streets in Patchogue. Leonard was wearing a light blue shirt with dark colored jeans and grey sneakers, Malyk Leonard reported. Additionally, the heavyset woman is 5-foot-6 and has black and grey dreadlocks.

Malyk Leonard, one of Yvette’s three children, has reported that his mom suffers from schizophrenia and early onset depression, and is bipolar. “Missing person” flyers related to Leonard’s disappearance are posted on storefronts and utility poles across downtown Patchogue.

This is a developing story. Please check back with Greater Long Island for updates.
