Long Island’s most heralded film festival is entering its 29th year at Staller Center for the Arts at the Stony Brook University campus.
And this year, 36 features and short films are on tap from 19 countries. The 2024 installment of the Stony Brook Film Festival will run from Thursday, July 18, through Saturday, July 27. Click here for the full schedule.
There’s also a big surprise in store.
“This year’s festival has a secret film—one that you will only know about if you come in person on July 21,” a press announcement reads. “The film — a major motion picture starring well-known Hollywood faces — was produced by a native Long Island filmmaker whose films have previously played the festival. It tells an inspirational true story with an amazing local hook.
As with almost all the other festival films, a question-and-answer session between the filmmakers and the audience will follow the preview.
This year’s festival kicks off with the U.S. Premiere of The Blond Boy from the Casbah, Alexandre Arcady’s semi-autobiographical dramedy about growing up in Algeria before emigrating to France as a teen. Scroll down to watch the trailer.
The Stony Brook Film Festival has been rated one of the most hospitable Festivals by filmmakers from around the globe, year-after-year, organizers say.
