Port Jefferson mayoral candidate
In my almost 25 years of public service, I have had some pretty awesome responsibilities. I served as the Supervisor of the Town of Brookhaven — a municipality with more constituents than Kansas City, Atlanta or Miami.
More recently, I was a Party Chairman in a county with more voters than 10 states. So when I decided to run for Port Jefferson Village Mayor– to represent you and our 8,000 neighbors– some of my closest friends insinuated that I was taking a step down. I completely disagree!
I love Port Jefferson and know our Village is a great place to live, work and raise a family. But, with urban blight, rising crime and high vacancy rates, the place we love and call home is heading in the wrong direction.
And that is why I am running — to take my decades of experience to revitalize the Downtown and Uptown and improve our Quality of Life.

In 2000, at 33 years old, I became the youngest Supervisor in Brookhaven Town’s history. When I took office, I created an open-door policy at Brookhaven Town Hall and began holding town meetings in the evenings to better accommodate constituents’ schedules.
As Town Supervisor, I worked with my colleagues to acquire the Town’s 120,000 sq. ft. office facility and consolidate the town government under one roof — saving millions of dollars of the taxpayers’ hard earned money.
As Supervisor, I proposed and enacted the largest Environmental Bond Act in local government history ($100 million). At the same time, my Administration also delivered the largest tax cut in NYS government history. In 2003 – 100%, in 2005 – 97.5%.
As Village Mayor, you can count on me to deliver the same fiscally conservative and environmentally conscience results.
Fortunately, Port Jefferson Village has many strengths and opportunities. However, we also have a few weaknesses and threats. Exactly zero of them have anything to do with national politics or any other political figure.
Unfortunately, rather than running on her record, the current Mayor has tried to distract the residents from focusing on the real issues and challenges our Village is facing. Our team, Tom Meehan, Tracy Stapleton and myself, is comprised of a bi-partisan group of concerned and dedicated individuals committed to serving all of the residents, regardless of political affiliation.
I am running to use my vast experience in land use, economic development and municipal budgeting to help our property values and improve our quality of life — just like I did when I served as your Town Supervisor.
