4 Long Island towns rank among NY’s Top 10 Most Popular Boating Spots

Long Island continues to cement its reputation as New York’s premier boating destination, with four local communities landing spots in the Top 10 Most Popular Boating Spots statewide, according to new data released by Getmyboat.

The 2025 report, which analyzes proprietary booking and demand data from Getmyboat’s marketplace of over 150,000 rental boat listings worldwide, places Sag Harbor at No. 2, Oyster Bay at No. 3, Port Washington at No. 4, and East Hampton at No. 8 among New York’s most sought-after boating destinations.

No. 2 — Sag Harbor claims silver as ‘Gem of the Hamptons’

Sag Harbor emerged as the state’s second most popular destination, with sailing yachts being the vessel of choice among the 37 available boats.

Described in the report as “a gem of the Hamptons,” Sag Harbor offers “classic maritime charm and boasts a a picturesque harbor lined with stunning sailboats and yachts.” Boaters can explore Shelter Island Sound, Gardiners Bay and the Peconic Bay, which are “renowned for calm waters and scenic views of Long Island.”

No. 3 — Oyster Bay surges with Presidential pedigree

Oyster Bay jumped two spots from its No. 5 ranking in 2024. With access to access to Oyster Bay Harbor and the Long Island Sound, boaters there are treated to expansive views of the scenic North Shore, including historic estates. Boaters can enjoy “iconic landmarks such as Sagamore Hill, the former home of President Theodore Roosevelt.”

No. 4 — Port Washington offers quaint waterfront charm

According to the report, Port Washington “is known for its quaint waterfront and scenic North Shore harbor. Port Washington offers “panoramic views of Manhasset Bay and the Long Island Sound, while exploring the town’s charming marinas, waterfront restaurants, and boutique shops.”

No. 8 — East Hampton boasts 70 miles of premium shoreline

East Hampton offers about 70 miles of shoreline, providing navigational opportunities for recreational and professional mariners, the report state. The area’s “protected coves and bays, coupled with its proximity to open ocean waters, make it an ideal environment for a wide range of boating activities.”

Manhattan tops the list

While Long Island dominated the rankings, Manhattan claimed the No. 1 spot. The report notes Manhattan’s appeal stems from access to the Hudson River, East River and New York Harbor, offering up-close views of such iconic landmarks as the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan Bridge.

Economic impact and tourism

The strong showing of Long Island destinations in the report reflects the region’s significant role in New York’s recreational boating economy. With over half a million registered boats statewide, New York ranks seventh nationally in boat registrations, according to the report.

Getmyboat’s report comes as Long Island’s marinas and charter operators gear up for another busy summer.

Getmyboat’s analysis examined booking demand and completed rentals across the state, ranking cities based on frequency of use. The report included data on pricing, popular vessel types and local boating culture for each destination.
