What to know before heading to July 20’s Alive After Five in Patchogue

|

The summer’s second installment of Alive After Five happens this Thursday, July 20, in downtown Patchogue.

Here are some things to know before you go:

• The second Alive After Five of summer typically draws more people than any of the other three. Last year’s drew an estimated 25,000 to the village.

• The festival is held along Main Street from West Avenue to near Rider Avenue, as well as portions of South Ocean and Railroad avenues.

• The temperature is expected to reach close to 90 degrees tomorrow in Patchogue.

• The area to be for kids is around the Capital One Plaza, a block west of Rider Avenue, where there are bounce houses, slides, children’s music and activities provided by Patchogue-Medford Library.

• For parents of small children, after 6:30 p.m. it becomes increasingly hard to navigate strollers through the crowds along Main Street especially. Try sticking to the CapitalOne Plaza area or South Ocean Avenue.

• The festival’s organizers, volunteers with the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce, have taken much efforts to alleviate parking issues and congestion by offering free shuttle services.

The shuttles will be running from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. from St. Joseph’s College and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church in Patchogue. Click here for full details.

• Each festival runs from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., though live music and the serving of alcohol in the outdoor corrals will be cut off at 9 p.m.

• If any one festival were to be called off because of rain, the make-up date is Aug. 24.

• Each AA5 installment has a theme, and the theme for 2017’s second festival is Women in the Arts. Many of the art-related activities happen near the District Court building at 150 West Main Street.

• The upcoming Alive After Five dates Aug. 3, and Aug 17. (Again, rain date Aug. 24.)

• Alive After Five’s official website is aliveafterfive.com.

• Every corral for those drinking alcohol will have recycling bins for people to toss out their plastic Solo-style cups.

Volunteer Patchogue Waste Warriors will then be picking up the bags of plastic and taking them bring them to the lawn of the Congregational Church of Patchogue at 95 East Main Street. Patchogue Village will then transport the plastic to be recycled.

Waste Warrior volunteers are needed. They are asked to report to the church, located next to Patchogue Theatre for Performing Arts, at 6 p.m. or whenever they can get there.

• Available above is our PSA from the last AA5 regarding the new recycling efforts.
