5 Long Island comic book shops that won’t disappoint fans or newbies

|

Fourth World Comics (Smithtown) – best for toys and collectables

The other shops on this list combined could fit inside of Fourth World Comics.

The shop, massive in square footage, also has a sizable footprint on the islands comic book market. Owner Terrence Fischette said Fourth World has around 200 weekly pull list customers.

Fischette said he took over the shop in Aug of 2019 from his parents, who acquired the store in 1988.

“I was working there since I was 16,” Fischette said.

While he said the comic book business is rather consistent, the graphic novel game waxes and wanes when different titles are caught under the big screen spotlight and made into a multi-million dollar movie.

“They see a trailer and they wanna check out the source material where it came from,” Fischette said of sporadic graphic novel shoppers. “So that month or so when the movie is announced and there’s trailers out those books sell a lot. These readers don’t always stick around, but they do wanna check out other books and come back eventually.”

Fischette said it is his location’s size and appeal, as well as his staff, that separates Fourth World from the rest on the shops on the island. Customers would also notice Fourth World has the largest collection of Funko! Pops, action figures and other toys and collectable of any of comic book shops around.

The store has no shortage of back issues either with more than 50 bins stuffed with current age issue. All their back issues, including those which are graded, are discounted every Tuesday and Thursday.
