This Friday, Aug. 10, the Islip Chamber of Commerce is inviting everyone to bring their beach chairs to 401 Main Street for a performance by Barometer Soup — a 10-piece Jimmy Buffett tribute band that plays other artists such as Zac Brown and Billy Joel.
The band will play a two-hour set from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the back field — located behind the Town of Islip Public Works building.
The chamber’s president, Doris Kennedy, describes the event as a “simple night” where family and friends can grab chairs or blankets and listen to tunes that all know and love.
“We want to give everyone time to walk through town and grab a bite to eat; maybe get some ice-cream. Then they can make their way over to hear the band play,” she said.
The chamber has received over $5,500 in grant money from the county for the live arts program.
“So this is the first of our concerts that we’re doing,” Kennedy said.
(The second will in the fall).
Barometer Soup has performed with members of Jimmy Buffett’s own band, “The Coral Reefers” at the Jones Beach pre-shows.
Jd Spradlin from Sirius Radio’s Margaritaville has described the band as “the ultimate compilation of musicians performing as a Buffett tribute band on the east coast with a horn section and even dancing hula girls, ‘The Barometerettes!’”
Admission Friday night is free to all.
