Breaking: Clydesdales en route to Bay Shore; ‘every attempt’ will be made to march

After a stop in Patchogue Village on Wednesday, Anheuser-Busch’s famed clydesdales are getting set to trot through downtown Bay Shore on Thursday, Oct. 11.

“We’re bringing the clydesdales to town,” said Sean Rose, president and CEO of Clare Rose — the regional distributor for Anheuser-Busch, brewers of Budweiser and Bud Light.

The horses will be delivering beer from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. along Main Street, just like in the old days. They will start at Homan Avenue and proceed west to Ocean Avenue.

“We picked Bay Shore and Patchogue because these are great entertainment locations where people go to enjoy themselves, like so many villages and hamlet on Long Island” Rose said,

He noted the benefits of the clydesdales visiting two downtowns that are close to each other — and where the horses will be kept during their stay on Long Island.

“If you use them, they do need their rest,” Rose said.

The Town of Islip, as well as Bay Shore’s business and community leaders have been planning a warm welcome.

“The Bay Shore Restaurant Committee is excited to work with Clare Rose and Anheuser-Busch to bring the world famous clydesdales to downtown Bay Shore,” said Mike McElwee, who co-owns three restaurants on Main Street.

He said the chamber anticipates “the entire community” to be involved, including the town, schools, fire department and veterans organizations. “This should not be missed.”

“It’s just a good time for the general public to come out and see these magnificent animals,” said Rose. “The horses are huge, if you ever got close to them. And they’re beautiful.”

Anheuser-Busch owns about 250 clydesdales, good for one of the largest herds of clydesdales horses in the world. The horses are kept at various locations in the U.S.
