Coyle’s opens second Bay Shore location in heart of downtown

|

Coyle’s Homemade Ice Cream has doubled down on Bay Shore.

The longtime South Shore ice cream shop has taken over 17 E. Main St., a storefront previously occupied by Perfect Pasta and Gelato and, before that, Kismet Coffee and Roto.

The new shop gives Coyle’s a presence along downtown Bay Shore’s busy Main Street while allowing the company to keep its original Bay Shore location, which first opened in 1985.

“We have wanted for a while to be in downtown Bay Shore, given all that’s happening and how lively it has become with all the new development,” owner Quadir Russell said.

Russell, of North Babylon, purchased Coyle’s in December 2023 with business partner Michael Khoury.

The pair initially considered relocating the original Bay Shore shop downtown but ultimately decided against moving one of the company’s most established locations.

“For a while, we considered moving the current Bay Shore store to downtown but ruled against it since it’s our oldest and busiest store,” Russell said. “So when this opportunity came about that was already properly permitted, we just felt like we had to jump on it.”

Russell said the restaurants, new development and steady foot traffic throughout downtown Bay Shore made the location particularly attractive.

“With the foot traffic of downtown Bay Shore from all the amazing restaurants, we’re very excited to serve the growing Bay Shore community,” he said.

The opening comes shortly after Coyle’s relocated and expanded its Islip shop into a nearly 2,900-square-foot storefront at 539 E. Main St.

That location, which is nearly three times larger than the former Islip shop, includes a roughly 1,400-square-foot kitchen that serves as a central production hub for the growing brand.

The larger Islip space allows Coyle’s to produce more ice cream in-house, host birthday parties and expand its selection of desserts and candy.

Coyle’s now operates locations in Bay Shore, downtown Bay Shore, Islip and Lindenhurst.

Russell and Khoury have said their goal since purchasing the company has been to expand the brand while preserving the nostalgic neighborhood ice cream shop experience that customers have enjoyed for decades.

“It was already a trusted brand,” Russell previously told Greater Long Island. “Everyone in the area loves the ice cream. For us, it was about keeping that going and expanding our presence on Long Island.”
