Flanders dad, 37, killed after being struck by pickup truck on Flanders Road

A 37-year-old Flanders father was struck and killed by a pickup truck while crossing Flanders Road early Sunday morning, Southampton Town Police said.

Wayne Conforti Jr. was crossing the road near Oak Avenue about 1:30 a.m. Sunday when a white 2016 Toyota Tacoma traveling west through the lighted intersection hit him, police said.

Officers from Southold Town Police’s Community Response Unit and Patrol Division, along with the Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, responded and found Conforti in the roadway with serious injuries.

Conforti was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The driver was not injured.

The Tacoma was impounded for a safety inspection, as police continue investigating, authorities said.
