Carly Korwin remembered her husband Spencer as a devoted father and ‘the love of my life’
The widow of the former Team USA triathlete who drowned during a family vacation on Shelter Island broke down in tears at his funeral Sunday, remembering him as her “dream husband,” according to the New York Post.
“This is the worst day of my life,” said Spencer Korwin’s devastated widow, Carly, speaking through tears. “I can’t accept that this is real and that Spencer is not going to come home.”
Korwin, 38, of Manhattan was remembered Sunday at a service at Temple Israel on Manhattan’s Upper East Side as a lively and dedicated father of two young daughters, Sadie, 4, and 1-year-old Colette, and as a fun-loving, lifelong prankster, the New York Post reports.
Korwin drowned Sept. 2 in the Shelter Island Sound after entering the water about 8 a.m. near the Pridwin Hotel’s dock on Crescent Beach, police said.
His wife alerted hotel staff after he failed to return, and divers recovered his body roughly seven hours later. Police believe the death was accidental.
‘Forever their hero’
Carly Korwin, who met her husband while the they both attended Syracuse University, described their marriage as a rare, once-in-a-lifetime love, and recalled how he left notes for her and their daughters around their apartment and set automated texts reminding her that he loved her.
“He was filled with surprises and hugs just because,” Carly Korwin told fellow mourners at Sunday’s service. “I know the girls will never stop missing him, and he will forever be their hero.”
Korwin founded Korwin Health & Wellness in 2021 and competed for Team USA Triathlon at the 2012 World Championships in Auckland, New Zealand.
