Victoria Heuermann told the judge she could be fair, but was dismissed after revealing whose daughter she is, report says

She didn’t play the Rex card. The court did instead.

Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann’s daughter Victoria answered a jury summons and told a Nassau County judge she could be impartial. Last week she was sent home nonetheless.

Heuermann, 30, of Massapequa Park, was dismissed as a potential juror in a child sexual abuse trial because the court fretted she would be “a distraction,” according to a Newsday report that cited her lawyer and sources close to the case.

In spite of her many public appearances during her father’s case, as well as being featured in a Peacock documentary, state Supreme Court Justice Robert McDonald, the prosecutor and the defense attorney didn’t immediately recognize her, Newsday’s sources said.

Rex Heuermann pleaded guilty earlier this year to murdering seven women and killing an eighth.

During jury selection in the sexual abuse case last week, Victoria Heuermann was asked if she knew anyone who had been convicted of a crime. She requested a sidebar and answered the question in chambers, her attorney, Robert Macedonio, told Newsday.

Even after she insisted she could still be fair, she was dismissed from the jury pool. Macedonio said she “was still willing to serve,” telling Newsday his client deserves credit for answering honestly instead of taking the easy way out.

Under New York law, trials — including jury selection – are held in open cour. Newsday reported that, under an appellate ruling, judges may withhold some information from the public only over specific juror privacy concerns.

Macedonio said Victoria Heuermann is regularly dogged by attention because of her father’s crimes, and that it will follow her for the rest of her life.

“These are innocent victims of his actions,” he said of Heuermann’s family.
