Bellport Village residents are invited to a presentation this Saturday morning by members of the village’s residential rental/bed & breakfast committee.
The meeting will be at the Bellport Community Center and will run from 10 a.m. to noon.
The committee has been tasked with coming up with a plan to get a handle on short-term rentals within the village through websites such as airbnb.com, while also looking to accommodate those people considering Bellport as a vacation retreat.
The seven-member group’s findings to date will be presented Saturday, and residents will then have the opportunity to make comments or suggestions.
Bellport Mayor Ray Fell has said problems that can come with weekend or one-night rentals, such as wild parties, haven’t been a huge issue in the village, but the village would like to act to prevent such problems.
The Village Board tried to do just that last summer by passing a code that would have allowed legal, permitted B&B operations in any residential zone within the village. That idea was scrapped after public outcry.
The board then appointed the committee in September. It’s being chaired by South Howells Point Road resident Mary Butler.
