Patchogue’s — and potentially, America’s — favorite singer these days is “on the path unwinding.”
“American Idol” contestant Christian Guardino won over viewers with his powerful rendition of Elton John’s “The Circle of Life” from “The Lion King.”
Accompanied by background singers and surrounded by bright yellow, orange, and red hues, Guardino, 22, had the audience on their feet.
The celebrity judges all agreed his Disney Night performance was among his best thus far in the competition.
“In all of these performances, tonight you were standing totally in your light,” judge Lionel Richie said. “You were actually shining bright … Amazing, amazing performance.”
Nonetheless, Guardino had to sweat it out at the end of the broadcast — his name was the last one read by Ryan Seacrest as making the Top 7. Three of his competitors, Emyrson Flora, Mike Parker and Lady K, were eliminated.
Together with Guardino, America’s votes sent Leah Marlene, Jay Copeland, Noah Thompson, Fritz Hager, HunterGirl, Nicolina Bozzo to the next round.
“American Idol” airs again tonight at 8 p.m. on ABC.
