Here’s what you need to know about Babylon Village’s 2022 Spring Fling

|

The Babylon Chamber of Commerce’s annual Spring Fling Arts and Music Festival returns next Saturday, May 14, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

And, as of now, hallelujah: rain and wind are not in the forecast.

Attendees are encouraged to explore the village’s many businesses and enjoy the variety of live entertainment.

“We try to focus not so much on bigger bands and musical acts, but solo artists or duet gigs … just featuring different musicians who might not get bigger notoriety when you have bigger bands coming in,” said Kelly Peckholdt, Babylon Village chamber president.

The music

There will be two musical sets taking place: the first, from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., and the second is from 3-6 p.m.

The first round of performers include:

  • Haig Mathosian (north end of Deer Park Avenue)
  • Jay Flashner (near Mary Carroll’s)
  • Evan Kuriga (near Jack Jack’s)
  • Matt Margolin (south end of Deer Park Avenue)

The second round features the following:

  • Kevin Lewis (north end of Deer Park Avenue)
  • The Zigons (near Mary Carroll’s)
  • Mike Nugent (near Jack Jack’s)
  • Dan Donnelly (south end of Deer Park Avenue)

Peckholdt mentioned one unique addition to this year’s Spring Fling is a Long Island music scene podcast that will live-stream the event.

From 2:30-3 p.m., Peckholdt said her students will perform outside of Positions Dance Studio, and the Argyle Accents, Argyle Theater’s children’s show choir, are set to sing in front of Fitness Incentive.

This year’s annual sidewalk chalk contest is sponsored by Argyle Toys and takes place on James Street.

There will be three categories — 8 years old and younger, ages 8-13, and 13 years old and over. The top three contestants in each group receive a grand prize for their creations.

Other kid-friendly activities include face-painting and bouncy houses. The Babylon Public Library is providing outdoor lawn games, such as cornhole near Monsoon, Peckholdt said.

The Babylon Village Arts Council plans to set up tables for artists in the same area, and there will be plenty of vendors along Deer Park Avenue.

Road closures and parking

Expect road closures for the event beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting until 7 p.m. Parking is available on the east and west side of Deer Park Avenue, but Peckholdt encourages people to carpool or walk to the village if the weather is nice.

A rain date is in place for May 21 during the same hours.

“This is the first time that we can run it without COVID restrictions, so we’re excited to get back to pre-COVID crowds and activities,” Peckholdt said.
