He is quickly cementing himself as one of the most successful basketball players to ever come from Long Island.
On Thursday night, for the second time in his career, North Babylon native Danny Green hoisted the Larry O’Brien trophy in the air, after helping lead his Toronto Raptors to an NBA Finals victory over the Golden State Warriors. The Raptors, a heavy underdog facing-off against the back-to-back Finals victor, were able to win the series in six games.
Green, who is known for his three-point shot and defensive prowess, started the entire playoff run, including the championship’s best-of-seven matchups. In the 2019 playoffs, he averaged 6.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists, and 1.3 steals.
The 31-year-old’s best performance in the Finals came in Game 3, where Green scored 18 points with 5 rebounds to secure a 123-109 win, going up 2-1.
Here’s his reaction to being a World Champion again.

The former Tar Heel won his first title in 2014, when his San Antonio Spurs defeated the Miami Heat in five games.
The Spurs traded Green to his new team, the Raptors, over this summer with superstar teammate Kawhi Leonard, who wound up winning the NBA Finals MVP this year.
Following the Finals win, a TSN reporter asked Green if he’d think he was headed for another championship run after the trade went down.
“No, I had no idea,” said the now, two-time champion, “But I was very hopeful. I knew being with that special man (Kawhi Leonard) that brought me along, we could get this done.”
