Suffolk County correction officer Steven “S.K.” Krayewski — a founding member of the sheriff’s office’s ice hockey team — has died. He was 49.

Family and friends will gather Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Fives Smithtown Funeral Home, 31 Landing Ave., for wake services, and then on Saturday at the Parish of the Holy Cross, 95 Old Nichols Road in Nesconset, for a Mass of Christian Burial to honor the 20-year veteran of the sheriff’s office.

Meanwhile, donors have contributed more than $30,000 via a FundtheFirst.com fundraiser for Krayewski’s wife and three children.

Krayewski, affectionately remembered this week for his witty sense of humor and strong cooking skills at barbecues, died suddenly in the early hours on Tuesday, May 28. He lived in Smithtown with his family.

“S.K. was a loving husband, to his wife Danielle, a dedicated and proud father to his children Steven, Anthony and Gabrielle,” reads a passage on FundtheFirst.com. “He was a fun-loving, kind and generous friend to all who knew him.

“Please consider donating to this fundraiser to help support his family with the unforeseen financial burdens they will encounter during this difficult time of need,” the note continued.
