When the popular jam band Dogs In A Pile took the stage this weekend at the Great South Bay Music Festival in Patchogue, it did so with two native Long Islanders.

Meet Jeremy Kaplan of Bellmore and Brian Murray of Manhasset.

Great Long Island chatted with them quickly between acts.

Here’s what we learned.

Kaplan’s musical career got on the fast track, with an assist from the Piano Man, when he was awarded the Billy Joel Scholarship to attend the prestigious music and performing arts school Berklee in Boston, Mass.

Prior to that, he had gradated from the Long Island High School for the Arts in Syosset in 2017.

His first concert was Rush at Jones Beach in 2008 and his go-to breakfast spot when back on Long Island is Long Island Bagel Café in Bellmore, where he’ll routinely order up a toasted egg bagel with cream cheese.

As for Murray, he’s a Manhasset High School graduate (2017) who also attended Berklee, where he met Kaplan. His first concert was Motley Crue at Madison Square Garden and his go-to spot for food on the Island is Orlando’s in Manhasset.

If you manage to spot him there, he’ll likely be chomping on a chicken vodka panini.

Together they joined Dogs In A Pile in 2020.

The band lived together in New Jersey during COVID, where they holed up and practiced.
