A documentary film that chronicles the journey of a young Yazidi girl returning from ISIS captivity won the Grand Prize award at the 2024 Stony Brook Film Festival, the Island’s largest and most celebrated.
It marked the second time in the festival’s 29-year history at Staller Center that a documentary took home top honors.
Not only that, this year’s event recognized some of the youngest award-winners in festival history.
It was also the best-attended festival since “well before COVID,” the organizers said.
The festival, which ran from July 18 through July 27, brought together hundreds of directors and filmmakers and featured 36 films from 19 countries. Of those entries, 13 were recognized with awards.
