Pita Bowl sets opening date in downtown Lindenhurst

|

The Village of Lindenhurst is getting a new food concept beginning at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 17.

That’s when Pita Bowl, a build-your-own gyro (and more) eatery, opens at 280A North Wellwood Avenue.

As previously reported, the Greek restaurant is being launched by longtime Lindenhurst resident Rea Leunes with her husband, Steve, and son, Dean.

“We’re so excited to open,” Rea told GreaterBabylon on Tuesday.

Those in the village may recognize Rea, who also owns C’est La Vie, a women’s fashion boutique a few doors down from Pita Bowl.

The Leunes family, who has deep Greek roots, aims to offer Old World flavors with a modern American twist to it.

Customers will get to choose between ordering pita bread or a bowl and filling either with a choice of protein, vegetables, and homemade sauces.

“We are using family recipes constantly passed down,” said Dean, a culinary graduate from Johnson & Wales University.

That includes selling traditional pork gyros with french fries in them, which is how they’re served in their home country.

And, for that American twist, there will be options like adding barbecue sauce or hot sauce on their dishes.

Pita Bowl is about 1,000-square-feet and features seating for 16 diners.

Make sure to check back at GreaterBabylon for our photo coverage at the opening.
