Girl Scout Troop 3277 of Wantagh rallies to help flood victims in Texas

|

They’re little girls with big hearts.

Girl Scout Troop 3277 from Wantagh spent part of their weekend collecting food and supplies for communities impacted by the devastating floods in central Texas earlier this month.

“It’s important to help other people out,” 7-year-old Emma Healy told Greater Long Island. “Part of being a Girl Scout means helping other people when they get hurt.”

Emma and her friends — Leah Sandler, Sophia Ponzini, and Samantha Troccoli — set up shop outside Wantagh Elementary School on Sunday afternoon. In exchange for a donation, they handed out cups of homemade lemonade.

Thanks to word spreading on social media, dozens of people showed up with necessities like baby wipes, toothbrushes, hand sanitizer, bug spray and flashlights.

Troop leader Andrea Troccoli said it’s the least they could do, following a disaster that killed more than 100 people.

“Some of the girls affected were Girl Scouts. This goes towards being a sister to every Girl Scout, something they learn at an early age. This event helps the girls help really understand what that saying means,” she said.

This isn’t the first time Troop 3277 has stepped up to help others. In 2024, they held two similar fundraisers — one in support of the family of Detective Jonathan Diller of Massapequa, who was killed during a traffic stop in Queens, and another to aid Florida residents affected by Hurricane Helene.

“It makes me feel so good to be able to help out,” said 7-year-old Samantha Troccoli.

And help out they did — the troop collected more than 175 pounds of supplies.
