They’re making no bones about it now.
Characteristically hush-hush about its store openings until the very final stages of construction, Trader Joe’s has officially confirmed what Miller Place residents have long suspected — posting giant “Coming Soon” and “Now Hiring” banners outside its under-construction store on Route 25A.
The future home of the quirky national grocer sits at 300 Route 25A, a mile east of Echo Avenue, where the shell of the building looks nearly finished. The exterior façade and some signature accents are in place, but interior work and site grading remain active as construction crews continue moving toward completion.
The store even shows up on Google Maps, where it’s listed as “Temporarily Closed.”
Approved in 2024

The site, which was approved by the Brookhaven Town Board in late 2024, marks Trader Joe’s easternmost location on Long Island and its third in Suffolk County, joining stores in Commack and Lake Grove.
When Greater Long Island last reported on the project in September, the walls had just started to rise on the 13,500-square-foot building. Since then, the structure has been fully enclosed, with parking lot layouts and curbing now visible from the roadway and a Walgreens adjacent parking lot.
While the company has yet to announce an opening date — consistent with its practice of keeping details quiet until the final weeks before launch — the newly installed signage signals that the finish line is in sight.
The property sits is part of a growing commercial corridor that also includes a True Value hardware store, a newly renovated McDonald’s, and a new access road approved by the town.
Once open, the Miller Place Trader Joe’s is expected to draw steady traffic from Miller Place, Mount Sinai, Sound Beach and Rocky Point, where shoppers now travel about 30 minutes west to reach the nearest existing Trader Joe’s in Lake Grove.
