Umberto’s Pizzeria and Restaurant opened its newest location Monday at Airport Plaza in Farmingdale. The shop replaces Bellagio Pizza, which recently downsized and moved a few miles away to a strip mall across from Farmingdale State College.
The nearly 2,900-square-foot space marks the sixth Long Island location for Umberto’s, which also operates in Bellmore, Massapequa Park, Manhasset, Lake Grove and New Hyde Park.
The original New Hyde Park location opened in 1965.
“It’s my favorite Italian place on the Island,” Anita Lightman told Greater Long Island as she walked out with Umberto’s specialty, a grandma pie. “This one is so much more convenient since I go to Stew Leonard’s all the time.”
Umberto’s is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
