Nassau County police and a desperate family members are asking the public for help locating a 32-year-old woman who has been missing since Friday night after jumping from a moving vehicle in Oyster Bay.
Brittany Kritis-Garip was last seen on foot at 8:14 p.m. Friday on McCouns Lane. Minutes later, she was reported missing to police — at 8:30 p.m., Nassau Police said.
The missing woman’s husband, Fernando Garip, told News 12 she was in a panicked state when she jumped from the moving car, and that she then tossed her phone into a bush and ran off. The family said in a Facebook post shared across multiple groups that she may be disoriented, in and believes she is in danger, but is “not a danger to others.”
“We’ve been combing wooded areas, rural areas, suburban areas, everything,” Garip told News 12 on Sunday. “We’re going to be at this until she’s home.”
Nassau cops have deployed a helicopter and drones multiple times since Friday night. The search is focused near the East Norwich–Oyster Bay border.
As the search stretched into the weekend, family members took to social media to widen the net.
Jess Kritis posted the family’s urgent plea on Sunday, writing that Brittany “is deeply loved by her family.”
“We are worried, we are searching, and we just want her home safe,” she wrote, urging the community to stay alert.
The woman’s family is specifically requesting residents to check Ring cameras and security footage, search yards, backyards, garages and sheds, and to be on the look-out for her near train lines and stations.
Kritis-Garip is described as a white female, 5 feet 7 inches tall, about 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing black pants and a black jacket with a fur collar, police said. She wears glasses.
