‘Alive on the River’ series planned for Summer 2018 in Patchogue

|

Get ready to circle a few more dates on your summer calendar.

For the first time ever, the Patchogue Riverfront Committee will be launching its own version of Alive After Five this upcoming July and August.

The event series, called Alive on the River, involves all the Patchogue River hot spots teaming up for some great summer nights. Like Alive After Five, the events will run from 5-9 p.m. on Thursdays, though the river bashes will alternate from the Alive After Five dates.

The Alive on the River dates are July 5, July 26, Aug. 9, and Aug. 23.

The goal is to showcase the resurgence that’s also been happening on the water.

“Everybody has heard of the Nautical Mile …but you’re about to hear all about the Patchogue riverfront,” said Mark Miller, a co-owner of the Dublin Deck Tiki Bar and Grill, as well the Harbor Crab Co., which are both located on the river.

The other participating businesses include Drift 82, The Oar Steak & Seafood Grille, Blue Point Brewery and Off Key Tiki.

But unlike with Alive After Five, the roads will not be closed. The festivities are being held at the restaurants and bars themselves. The parties will feature live music with no cover charges.

To help non-boaters travel to the participating locations, the Patchogue Riverfront Committee is working toward having an affordable water taxi service in steady operation.

To raise money for Alive on the River, the riverfront committee, which is part of the Greater Patchogue Chamber Commerce, will be hosting other events as well.

For instance, there’s already a joint Cinco De Mayo event in the works.

“I’m new to the riverfront since opening Drift 82 last year,” said Drift co-owner John Sarno. “But I am proud to be part of an effort to make the river all it can possibly be — and a South Shore destination for boaters.”
