Avelo Airlines is joining Long Isand MacArthur Airport’s growing fleet of airlines, with service to North Carolina and Florida, airport and Islip Town officials announced on Tuesday.
The Houston-based airline plans to offer cheap flights to Concord-Padgett Regional Airport in Concord, North Carolina, beginning May 22, just before Memorial Day in May, and discounted service to Lakeland, Florida, and Wilmington, North Carolina (just north of Myrtle Beach) on June 22, Avelo officials confirmed.
Avelo joins Southwest, Breeze, Frontier and JetBlue providing flights at the Islip Town airport. Additionally, Southwest recently announced a partnership with Icelandair, that will provide service from MacArthur to Reykjavík, Iceland.
Long Island is one of three new destinations for Avelo, airline officials said. Avelo is also adding Nassau, Bahamas and Grand Rapids, Michigan, to its growing portfolio. Avelo, which first took flight in April 2021, will now serve 56 cities in 23 states, Puerto Rico and four international destinations: Bahamas, Jamaica, Mexico and Dominican Republic.
One-way fares starting at $59

Avelo officials said the airline operate Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft on the new service out of MacArthur, with one-way rates offered for as low as $59.
Last month, Gov. Kathy Hochul pledged $150 million in state money for infrastructure that would physically connect the Long Island Rail Road’s Ronkonkoma station to a proposed north terminal at the airport. The money would help pay for a pedestrian walkway between the train station and the airport.
Carpenter and Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine are both behind the idea. In fact, Romaine pledged putting “at least $50 million into infrastructure” to help push plans along.

Tuesday’s announcement also comes on the heels of Southwest’s new partnership with Icelandair, which as of March 1 is providing combined trips from MacArthur Airport (ISP) to Reykjavík Airport (RKV), one of two major airports that serve Iceland’s capital city of Reykjavík.
The airlines connect at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI).
Additionally, JetBlue in January announced it would fly daily between Long Island and Boston, beginning April 30, and also provide daily service to and from Fort Lauderdale, starting April 1. This, after launching service from MacArthur to Florida in October.
