Breaking: Evictions freeze, food delivery services deemed ‘essential’ under Cuomo’s stay-home order

|

Gov. Andrew Cuomo held a press conference Friday morning detailing New York’s next measures to combat the rapidly spreading coronavirus.

The governor announced he will be signing an executive order mandating 100% of the non-essential workforce to stay at home as the number of COVID-19 cases in New York increased to 7,100-plus with 35 deaths. This will go into effect this Saturday at 8 p.m.

Places that may remain open include pharmacies, grocery stores, among others. Cuomo deemed food delivery and takeout services as “essential” in his announcement.

These steps were taking after Cuomo called for the temporary closure of barbershops, hair and nail salons in New York earlier this morning.

On Thursday, the four governors in the Tri-State area announced indoor portions of retail shopping malls, as well as amusement parks and bowling alleys in the four states would close by 8 p.m. that day

In addition to the stay-home mandate, New York also enacted a 90-day moratorium on evictions for residential and commercial tenants.
