Heather Friedfertig started baking giant, stuffed cookies during quarantine as a hobby.
And now she’s doing it as a career.
She opened her first Chonky Cookies storefront in Lindenhurst this past week.
And so far, the owner says it’s been a hit.
“It’s like a thousand cookies every day,” Friedfertig said. “I would never have imagined this ever.”
The 24-year-old lost both her jobs at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and used her love of baking to cure her boredom.
After making her cookies for friends and family for some time, it was suggested that she start an Instagram account.
And it all blew up from there.
Fast-forward a year later, the young entrepreneur has her very own place to showcase her gooey cookie creations at 646A Wellwood Ave., located in Lindenhurst’s Sunrise Plaza.
The shop is still in its soft opening phase and currently operates Thursday through Saturday from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Updates on Chonky Cookies’s store hours can be found on their Instagram.
A variety of big-stuff cookies line the shelves, like PB&J, s’mores, cookies and cream, and the “Bada Bing” which is an almond-infused dough with pink, yellow, and green sprinkles mixed in, then stuffed with raspberry preserves and an Italian rainbow cookie.
Top any of these cookies off with a scoop of ice cream or pair with a cup of coffee, tea or milk.
